While structures, including walls, towers, and gates, are mainly for defensive purposes, they can be integrated with traps, making it possible to execute surprise attacks against the Sheriff forces. Furthermore, you can hire soldiers to prevent the invaders from getting into the central part of the base before they can even get the chance to do so by deploying them outside the gates.
Be mindful of carelessly building, though. The resources are limited, so every move must be carefully thought out.
